A Snowy Day

We had a big winter storm come through Friday and Saturday! It started snowing Friday morning. Surprisingly, Shelby County went to school! They decided to let the children go home an hour before regular dismissal. There was a lull in the snowfall Friday afternoon, but a bigger batch came during the night. Some places even had Thundersnow! I never heard thunder at our house, but Jodie heard it at her house--and saw some lightning! Jodie and I had planned to go to a couple of big consignment sales this weekend, but they were all cancelled. One of them will be open for their 1/2 price sale tomorrow, so we will definitely make it to that! Jack took a ruler out to measure the snow on our table on the deck. Near the edge of the table it was 5 inches, but closer to the middle of the table measured 6 inches! Jack enjoyed playing in the snow for just a little while (maybe 15 minutes) because it is SO COLD outside! Once he came inside we decided to make some Snow Cream! Here is the recipe we used:

1 cup milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup sugar
4-5 cups CLEAN snow

Mix the milk, vanilla, and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Slowly add the snow to the mixture. Stir constantly until it is as thick as ice cream. ENJOY!

Poor little Rachie was napping during all this fun! She'll have to try Snow Cream next time!
