On September 23, I got to go on a field trip to Huber's Farm with Jack and his class. The first graders had been learning all about apples so they took a field trip to an apple farm. We had a mean bus driver which helped Jack realize that he is glad he is a car rider! First we had a visit from Johnny Appleseed. He told us a lot about his life. Then we learned how the workers at Huber's Farm pick the apples. They use a special ladder and bags that can open at the bottom to let all the apples out when the pickers are ready. We went into the freezer where they keep all kinds of apples. The tour guide told us that keeping the apples cold was very good for them. Next we went into a room that had a machine that helps sort the apples. Each child got to take home a bag of apples that were grown at Huber's! They were very tasty! We had a sack lunch and then the kids got to play. There was a petting zoo, cool tunnel slides, mazes, and a huge air pillow to jump on. Unfortunately, my camera battery died before lunch.
While Jack and I were having a great time at the farm, Rachel was at home with Grandma and Grandpa who were visiting from North Carolina. She was sick with a stomach virus. Grandma ended up with it a day or so later.
